"MAY-HEM" - MAY'S PLAYLIST - BY BEN MCCABE

It's MAY-HEM!

We love seeing you enjoy your running as much as we do, so here's a complimentary playlist by Ben McCabe.

Ben is an everyday RLC athlete and has been committed to consistently seeing his running improve. We hope you get the privilege of meeting him at one of our runs... In the interim, enjoy the playlist he put together for our athletes. We also asked him some questions below.

What inspired you to become an athlete, and how did you get started in your sport?

Overcoming my battle with Cancer , I've been in remission for just over a year now and knew I had to start living a better lifestyle.

I got started with running by joining the local Park run in my neighborhood, and from walking I started pushing myself to run for as long as I could. Looking back to when I first started, my first park run 5k time was 45:44 and now my 5k PB is 26:02 and only getting better.

What's your favourite song to get pumped up before a big game or race?

1991 - The People (D&B Mix) . If I'm listening to music on a run or before, it's generally Drum & Bass. High energy and you just get hyped!, and you feel like running a lot faster.

If you had to pick one song that defines your athletic career, what would it be and why?

Drake - 0 to 100 . Really looking at my running career after running for 12 months now. I went from 0 to Half Marathon real quick.

Do you have any pre-race/run rituals, and if so, what are they?

Always packing my running kit out the night before , making sure everything I need is sorted out AND LOTS OF SLEEP.

What's your guilty pleasure song that you love to listen to but are too embarrassed to admit it?

Taylor Swift - Shake it Off.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Linkin Park - Meteora . The first album I bought with my own money. I know all the lyrics. The album had a huge impact on my childhood and got me into music and since then I've always had a keen interest in music and how it made me feel .

How do you choose the songs for your playlist, and what factors do you consider?

Generally , I just sort my music by genre and hit play, and let it run. Usually, the songs in those playlists are songs I either like or have a dope beat and get me hyped up .Each playlist of mine is for a specific vibe or atmosphere I'm trying to create.

If you could have any musician or band perform at one of your games or races, who would it be and why?

Rufus Du Sol . I mean, why not? They're incredbile.

Lastly, what advice would you give to someone who wants to become a late athlete like you?

The hardest step in running is the one starting toward the shoe closet. Make it easy to get out and run, even if its just for a walk. Everyone has to start somewhere, but the most important thing is that you make the decision to start.
